Capital Campaign

The Athens-Limestone County Public Library Foundation is excited to unite the community with new ways to help our library grow. In addition to the Naming Opportunities still available in our Library, we have a new initiative to build an Outdoor Classroom on the south side of our parking lot. Dedicate a brick to a loved one and consider giving a little more to increase the Library’s offerings to the young and old in our area.

Outdoor Classroom Campaign

The Athens-Limestone Public Library Foundation is raising funds to upgrade the property adjacent to the Library into an attractive venue and outdoor classroom space that is suitable for cultural and tourism events, family activities and outdoor STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art and math) education.

This project will improve the appearance of the Jefferson Street corridor leading from Highway 72 to the Limestone County Courthouse square. The Outdoor Classroom, coupled with the recent Library renovation, will have a long-term positive effect on education, economic development, job creation and tourism for our community.

Planting a Legacy Campaign

Individuals, businesses and government entities in Athens and Limestone County contributed $6.2 million to repurpose an abandoned Kroger grocery store into a beautiful new 40,000 square foot public Library. The new facility includes a Technology Center where free computer classes and job fairs are regularly hosted, dedicated rooms for children, teens and local history, a board room available for community use, and a large “prefunction area” and community room that have been in continuous use since the opening of the new Library in December of 2014. We have seen tremendous growth in Library cardholders and every category of Library usage over the past two years.
